Mufaddal “Mufy” Mithaiwala is a Managing Partner of our Firm’s New York and New Jersey offices in the insurance coverage and defense departments. Mufy focuses his practice on commercial litigation and insurance services, counseling a wide array of clients from mid-sized businesses to Fortune 500 companies, in a variety of complex and sophisticated legal matters. Mufy also represents domestic and international insurers and reinsurers in a wide range of complex insurance coverage disputes arising from commercial general liability, commercial auto liability, professional liability, builder’s risk, umbrella and excess liability policies. He has extensive experience in advising clients on claims handling issues and developing cost-effective strategies in coverage disputes, where he has achieved various successes.

Mufy has wide-spread experience in insurance law including in but not limited to New York, New Jersey, and their respective federal courts, and has achieved favorable decisions and outcomes for his clients where they consistently seek his advice on complex insurance matters and strategy from pre-suit handling to resolution.

Mufy utilizes his insurance experience and expertise in state and federal courts to identify early opportunities for favorable outcomes for his clients and has also litigated coverage disputes in jurisdictions across the nation. On behalf of his clients, Mufy prepares thorough coverage analyses, which formulate strategic plans, analyze complex litigation and policy issues, and employs innovative and cost-effective solutions. Along with his insurance coverage experience, he aptly handles complex commercial litigation on cutting-edge issues, contractual disputes, and other matters related to construction from inception to completion.

He also has seen various successes in high-profile coverage disputes at arbitration and mediation and has been instrumental in trial preparation for various multi-million-dollar insurance coverage matters. Prior to joining Salmon, Salmon, Labbe & Dehne, Mufy gained experience in the insurance industry from renowned law firms in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Mufy is licensed to practice law in New York and New Jersey as well as their respective federal courts.

Additionally, Mufy is an active member of the South Asian Bar Association and is recognized as a Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in insurance law in 2023, 2024, 2025, & 2026.
